It looks like it is 90 days after expiry, which I make 3rd or 4th Jan 2011.

Thanks for that, every time I work it out I come to a different date? and I guess it will in fact be just prior to midnight the day before.
Is the PN hosting free? so it would be possible to register the Domain and point it to PN, or perhaps easier to use the same registrar for both

Don't use PN for registration, they are far too expensive. Use one of the main registrars (I use daily.co.uk) and just use PN for hosting it, however... Not all accounts have hosting, many of the more recent ones don't so you need to check your account features. In any case webspace is very cheap now-a-days so plenty of companies to choose from.
