ADSL Golden Ratio

Is there such a thing as an ADSL Golden Ratio?🤔

I ask as there seems to be some form of correlation in that the up speed seems to be around a fifth of the down speed. 🙂🙄

Re: ADSL Golden Ratio

@Leapy I dont think so, but there is a max upload speed, dictated by the technology used.

Re: ADSL Golden Ratio

Fix

Both download and upload are affected by attenuation which increases with distance.

A "perfect" ADSL connection will have a download sync of 8Mbps, and upload of 880Kbps - so about a 10:1 ratio.

ADSL2+ will be 24Mbps down, 1.2Mbps up - so about a 20:1 ratio.

The upload frequencies are the lower frequencies so are attenuated a little less, so the ratios change with distance.

Re: ADSL Golden Ratio

@corringham That sounds like a logical set of ratios😊 20:1 and 10:1.

In my area they advertise FTTP at 1GB down and 200mbs up or  5:1

I know that a lot of people never get their rated up speeds, so maybe that is a limit to the average "Golden Ratio"?

Re: ADSL Golden Ratio

In my area they advertise FTTP at 900Mbps down and 900Mbps up or  1:1

Re: ADSL Golden Ratio

@Champnet won't the same up and down impact on the effectiveness of the Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL)?🤔

With a perfect balance, up and down, at such a speed, how would you know if you're coming or going and it wouldn't  be Asymmetric any longer either? 🙄

FYI:- Asymmetric not identical on both sides of a central line; unsymmetrical; lacking symmetry😉

Re: ADSL Golden Ratio

Apologies, it’s full fibre to the door. I was just comparing speed to your post above mine.
