550htdocs: No such file or directory

I last logged into my website four days ago.
I can log in okay but when I try to update htdocs I get the error message above. My website though is still live so the file is obviously there somewhere.
I  also get the message 257 "/" is the current directory
The problem seems to have started when I tried to access the site using Filezilla, prior to this I used Ipswitch but I bought a new laptop running Win 7 which no longer worked except in XP mode.
For the time being I've given up with Filezilla after deleting all settings.
I have rechecked all connection details and they are correct, can anyone help please.  Cry

Re: 550htdocs: No such file or directory

Hi Barry,
The permissions of the htdocs directory were dodgy. Give it another go now.

Re: 550htdocs: No such file or directory

Thanks for that I can update now.
On the downside my website has disappeared  leaving only the message:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Re: 550htdocs: No such file or directory

In FileZilla, after connection to homepages for me the last few entries in the message log are
Response: 257 "/" is the current directory
Command: TYPE I
Response: 200 Type set to I
Command: PASV
Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode (212,159,8,90,179,10)
Command: MLSD
Response: 150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for MLSD
Response: 226 Transfer complete
Status: Directory listing successful
The remote site listed in the right hand pane will be '/' with folder htdocs seen if you click the '+' against '/' to expand its contents.
Ticking Force showing hidden files at the bottom of the Server menu will ensure any hidden ('.') files such as .htaccess are made visible.
