550 Error when trying to delete a file (ftp)

I seem to have 2 files in separate folders that I cannot delete, when I try, I get a 550 No Such File or Directory error.
The files are zero bytes and are named:
()  .dat
() Display Order.dat
The files originated as a result of a bug in some code I was writing eithier in perl or php.
Now I cant get rid of them.
Any ideas how?

Have you tried using both an FTP client and the File Manager in the control panel. What are the file permissions set to?

No, I'd only used FTP.
I just used the control panel and its managed to delete them - thanks Bob
