i want to have my smtp mail sent to a different external IP other than my plusnet WAN IP. I changed the setting in the e-mail->smtp setting to point to the alternate address but mails I send to my domains hosted with plusnet are not going to the ip I requested.
Can this be done or do I have to amend the mx records in the domains settings as well - if so what is this left and right field all about ?
Yes it can be done and it sounds like you've done all you need to at your side. I'll take a quick look at your account now.
Edit: Seems like everything's set up OK but your mx records are pointing to your Plusnet IP. If you can update your ticket with the IP you want mail forwarding to then I can make the necessary changes on your behalf.
