slow website connection

I'm new to plusnet,my dailup connection is 37K and experienced very slow website connection - 3 minutes.
However, I use AOL dailup connection, connection speed is 37K, the website connection is fine, no delay.

Does anybody know why?

When you say "website connection" do you mean the initial dialling up, or do you mean browsing web sites?

If it's websites, could you tell us what your DNS servers are set to by doing the following:
[list=1]
  • Click "Start"
  • Click "Run"
  • Type in "cmd"
  • In the window that appears type "ipconfig /all"[/listShocked]

The dns servers should be set to 212.159.11.150 and 212.159.13.150.

Oh sorry, forgot about 98 Smiley

Try typing "winipcfg /all" instead of "ipconfig /all"

The above information is for networking but he is on "Dial-up".

You will find the settings as follows.
    My computer - dialup networking.
Right click on the icon for the connection you are using and select properties.
This will bring up your networking box. Click on Server types and make sure that only two boxes are ticked, these being Software compression and TCP/IP.
Next click on TCP/IP settings and enter the DNS values from the help pages in the boxes.

This should see your Dial up networking set up properly

But, ipconfig /all does give the information for dial-up connections! You simply have to be dialled-up when you issue the command. The adapter appears as a PPP adapter. EG, a dial-up connection I've just established:
      PPP adapter UKLinux:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : uklinux.net
        Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
        Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
        Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 194.247.48.224
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 194.247.48.224
        DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 80.84.64.20
        80.84.72.20
        NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled
No idea if the same is true of winipcfg.
