message boards help

Hi,
You have uploaded it to your normal webspace, it wont work there.
You will have to activate your cgi webspace and upload it there.

When you say "my webspace" do you mean your cgi webspace? as php will not work on the main server. It has to be insalled on the CGI server.

You will get an email from PlusNet giving you details of the password and database name for the mySQL space.

After activating the CGI space you need to wait up to 4 days for it to become active.

After that follow the tutorial available Here

is this my <CGI server name> themusic@physweb1.cgi.plus.net?

themusic@physweb1.cgi.plus.ne.criticalmass.plus.net Huh?Huh

No, you would use http://cgi.themusic.plus.com to see anything which you have uploaded to your CGI space.

However, that doesn't work. I think what you've done is you've activated your MySQL Database but not your CGI Space.

To activate the CGI space, go HERE, click CGI, and then press Activate.

You should be using cgi.plus.net to call it up from your FTP program.
I use Cute FTP which works fine with the cgi space for uploading.
You can download a trial version of this that is fully operational for a month and see if that works if your current one is giving you problems.

alright last question then im giving up. iv uploaded the gzip file or whatever.

iv used the custom commands but i keep getting Syntax error, command unrecognized.

i went to new commands in cuteftp. made these

tar xvzf phpBB

telnet cgi.themusic.plus.net

telnet

.

it did say make them

drive:\dir> telnet <CGI server name>
[Connecting]

i tried that but it said 500 DRIVE:\DIR not understood

COMMAND:> tar xvzf phpBB
500 TAR not understood

500 TELNET not understood
ERROR:> Syntax error, command unrecognized

You should try using those commands in telnet, they definitley work there. The FTP client way only recognise a few commands, tar probably not being one of them.

ok as i have got a little bit further im gonna post another error.

[Connecting]

Linux 2.4.22-5um (shell1.cgi.plus.net) (14:33 on Thursday, 01 January 2004)

login: themusic
Password:
themusic@shell1 themusic $ tar xvzf phpBB-2.0.6.zip
gzip: stdin has more than one entry--rest ignored
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
themusic@shell1 themusic $

it says that in absolute telnet.
