ftp speeds

Hi All,

I use Suse 9.1 Linux for most purposes, but have a copy of WinXP as aboot option. When managing my webspace - uploading files, deleting files etc. - I have tried two or three different ftp clients in Linux and they are all incredibly slow. For example to replace one 5Kb file took about 5 minutes.

Out of interest I tried the same thing on WinXP with a freeware ftp client and I uploaded a few files and deleted a load of original ones in a matter of seconds.

So, presumably I am doing something wrong with the Linux ftp. Any ideas? :?

Do you have the firewall enabled on Linux. If so try disabling it and see if your FTP is any quicker. Or try passive and non-passive FTP modes, passive is often better behind a firewall.

I do have the firewall enabled, there is also a firewall in the router but that is the same for Windows. Hmm, I'll have a play. Thanks guys.
