Interesting, I normally use Shields Up to test my system but I thought I would give the otther 2 sites a try to compare results on the common port stealth tests:

GRC- full stealth mode

Sygate - 3 ports only showing as blocked the test as closed

PC Flank - Stealthed

Now which site do I believe.......

In this context it does have a meaning.

A stealthed port means no communication was received back when an attempt to access the port was made. There may not be any system on that port or IP address.

A close port indicates a message was received back saying the port was closed - i.e. there is something listening for connections so something is monitoring the port for connections and the IP address is a valid one.

An open port means a connection accepted message was received back. SO there is a system listening and accepting connections on that port and IP address.

The purpose of hackers scanning systems is to identify IP addresses that are valid and ports that respond (are open or closed) to try and gain access via various methods to the systems behind the ports. If all your ports are stealthed, the chances are no further scans will be done on the IP address so all ports stealthed is the best way to be seen from the internet.
