What is this in the properties in spam mail?

Hi All

Being very careful checking my mail I have started to see this

x-open-relay: 69.162.44.160 is in a black list at bl.spamcop.net

line in the properties of some mail when I view the source of the mail. The IP varies and I surmise that spamcop.net is somehow tracking spam IPs but at what point is such a line added to the mail?

How good is spamcop? Smiley

These lines are added so thatt a consumer can see exactly how a mail was or was not defined as spam.

Spamcom track spam based on user submitals. E-mail servers can then use the spamcop systems to tell if a system involved in the e-mail transit has been involved in spam in the past.

Spamcop is very good, however, any company tracking spam has problems.

It can take months to remove a IP marked as a spammer. This is whilst they confirm no more sightings of spam from them.

Is there any specific detail you need to know about?

SpamCop automatically delists IP addresses a maximum of 48 hours from the most recent spam complaint - see http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/298.html.
