Website doesn`t display correctlly on different computers

:?:
Hi.
I`ve been really happy with my first attempt, until It`s been brought to my attention that when oher people view it that their display is not the same as mine.
Something to do with computer screen sizes and resolutions.
How do I get around this?
I`m using Dreamweaver.
Here`s my site.....

Hi Eddie,

I dont use Dreamweaver at all. But that is exactly your problem. You need to ensure that the site is designed in such a way that it works when viewing with different resolutions.

How you do that in Dreamweaver I dont know, but I have no doubt that some of the forum members will be more than glad to help.

Eddie, Dreamweaver (at least the MX 2004 version I'm using) has a preview capability to allow you to see the site at different resolutions e.g. 640 x 480, 800 x 600 etc.

That should let you visualize whether people are needing to scroll, cos your screen is bigger than theirs - and yes, size IS important Smiley

It might also be your use of layers that are causing problems on certain browsers; is there anything common you can detect about the problem reporters in terms of their browser make and version?

I started to look in more detail, but my pop-up killer took exception to some of the pages and closed 'em ... and now, I've started drinking and can't quite see straight ...

Either way, HTH

To remain compatible you should design your pages for 800x600. You can do this by specifying a table with a fixed width of 600 then contain your web page within it.

What I did on the home page is design the background on Photoshop, to the size of 1024 x 768 then send it over to Dreamweaver.
On my PC there is no problem, but on different PC`s (eg my 21" monitor at work) it seems to add a "tile effect" to my background to fit the bigger screen instead of stretching it to fit.
Sad
Hope this makes sense.
