Using one modem for two computers

I've just sighned up for broadband and would like to know if I can use the one modem on my laptop and my desktop just by unpluging it from one and connecting it to the other.

Thanks for any help.

You could do that if you can be bothered with the hassle.

A router or better still a wireless router would be ideal and way less hassle.

Modem & internet connections

Hi,

Frankly I do this all the time (plugin & unplug) with my USB ADSL D-Link modem and as I have the same modem software installed on both machines (workstation / server and laptop) its extremely quick and easy and completey hassle free. Just unplug one and plugin the other and way it goes, takes seconds.

You could use both pc off the one modem if you get a cross over network cable. But the pc with the modem would have to be on for both to work
