Trojan Horse Virus...Help....

I keep getting a warning from my AVG software saying:

Trojan Horse Worm/agobot.9.AJ
C/Windows/system32/winhlpp32.exe

When I run AVG it apparantly heals it.....but after about 30 mins of being online the warning comes back on again.......any ideas??

Also my PC sometimes shuts down without warning and just re-starts.......very strange!

Have you done a full system scan of all your disks?

Try some of the other online scanners I have listed in General: Essential Security software and see if any of them will get rid of it.

It sounds like AVG is not getting rid of the virus/trojan completely and only fixing/deleting the file that has been infected rather than the original infection that may still be present or running in memory and thus keeps infecting files.

Obviously, AVG doesn't or can't fix it properly. Are the definition files up to date ??

1/ Restart in safe mode and serach for winhlpp32 and delete it (it is not part of Windows). Also search for a file svchos1 (NOT svchost, which is required). If you find svchos1, delete that also.

Restart as normal and downlaod Adaware and run it, removing the malware/spyware it recognises.

If you're running XP, then your problem might be hiding in the "System Restore" section of your hard drive, turn off System Restore and perform another complete scan. Then turn it back on again. AV apps cannot access the System Restore section of a hard drive, at least not to my knowledge.

Check the spelling! Is it Gaobot as opposed to Agobot? If so, see here:-

Also, be aware that although AV software can detect and quarantine, isolate or whatever infected files, it cannot stop the viral proceeses once they have been executed. To successfully use the fix tool for this virus, you must restore the infected files onto your PC, otherwise it will be reported that no infection was found. If you are up to it, delete manually.

AVG

Get yourself a proper anti virus such as NOD32, AVG is poor!

Once you have an infected PC, I have always used "Stinger" to get rid of the infection. Seems to work every time, at least for me! http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
