Suspect email from support@symantec.com

I've received an email reference to an email I sent them, saying I have bitdefile virus, and an attatchment to update my virus list.
I am not aware of sending them such an email, is it a known hoax? If so would symantec be interested in me letting them know?
TIA
John

Suspect email from support@symantec.com

The original email was probably sent to Symantec by a spammer/virus writer with you as a spoofed originator of it. This was then bounced back to you.

This is a common technique used by spammers and virus writers - see the new Email: Spam FAQs.

Just delete it, symantec will get loads of these reports from others as it is never an isolated occurance.
