Skype yes plus talk no with corporate firewalls....

Joy of Joys, my employer runs a very tight ship in terms of firewall policy (And who can blame them) As a result my skype account works but plus talk does not. why?

Because Skype uses a propriety protocol which is designed to transverse firewalls, without reconfiguration. (Its use an outgoing connection on the web ports for http and https.)

Where as PlusTalk, and other SIP protocol VOIP requires incoming ports to be opened on the firewall.

X Tunnels

Is that what x Tunnels would do if plusnet would decide to deploy them?

The nature of the SIP protocol makes it very difficult to traverse NAT-based firewalls as it uses random incoming ports as well. Have you tried an outbound proxy (such as sip.plus.net) or a STUN server? (stun.voip.org) these measures oftne circumvent to restrictions placed by NAT
