Skype and security

I'm seeking a bit of clarification and maybe pointers to finding out more:
A friend in NZ asked me to install Skype so we could chat for free. I did so this morning, but have subsequently noticed something when Skype is loaded that raised an eyebrow.
With a windump session running I saw a couple of strange IP addresses/hosts keep appearing, notably one from a Telewest block incoming from port 2115, but also outgoing from 1691 (tcp) and 28703 (udp). Couldn't find any enlightenment googling "port 2115" btw.
(I know zilch about lowlevel stuff so I was running windump just for interest's sake and trying to learn something)
These are also appearing in my router's firewall log but are not blocked (Firewall on but the config is default. And it's in NAT mode).
Not being blocked by ZA either.
So my questions are: What are these connections? Are they something to do with this funny "p2p-type" thing that Skype apparently uses? And are they (or any other aspect of Skype) a security problem that needs plugging?
