Setting up my own forum on my webspace

I want to create a forum in my webspace so a few of my friends can leave messages for each other.

I see there are a few open-source forum packages based on php and my-sql. But whats the best package to use from Plusnet's webspace servers?

Skills-wise I am familiar with HTML and have played around with simple PHP scripts. I just could use some recommendations about the best package to get started.

cheers, Mark

Setting up my own forum on my webspace

You can't run a forum in your www webspace, it must be installed on the cgi server.

Why not use phpBB, (PlusNet use it for this forum) and we have a tutorial which explains how to install it: Scripts: Help Installing phpBB. You don't need any php or HTML skills to install and run it.

Setting up my own forum on my webspace

Ah excellent, thanks Peter. Thats exactly what I needed to get going.

I'd looked for forum start-up info here on the PlusNet portal/forums... guess I didn't look hard enough.

In other news.... You know how sometimes you find something that feels like its giving you a glimpse into the future? Well I stumbled onto something like that this week --- http://www.cluetrain.com/
Kind of like open-source for marketing types. Worth a read.

Thx, Mark
