Setting up home machine to host web site

Hi,

Does anyone out there know how to setup your home machine to host a domain. I registered the domain with plusNet but I need to now add something to a portal, I assume this is my IP so that it redirects to my home machine?

Can anyone help?

John

Hi,

You would need to add an A record that points to your IP address. There is a tutorial on domain records here.

You're looking to set up a website on your own computer?

I wouldn't recommend it, but yes, you would need to change the IP address for your domain name to the one of your connection.

I'd recommend hosting it on PN servers. It is more secure and it also means that you don't need to have your computer on constantly.

Still not working!

Hi,

I followed the instructions for chaning the IP table to point to my home machine but it still doesn't navigate to IIS on my box. I've changed my belkin router so that it has a WAN IP as my domain. I've enabled port 80 on the box. What else do I need to do?
