What are the chances of ever finding a (free) pop-up blocker that actually works? Am I destined to go through life with something-nasty.com jumping up in my face for ever?! Shockedops:

Try the Google toolbar.

If other blockers are not working for you though, it sounds like they are poor, or that you have a spyware infestation.

Pop-up blockers.

Why not switch to mozilla 1.6 browser which has an in-built pop-up blocker and you can also block advert boxes on web sites.

For IE I use adshield to block pop-ups.

I've been using the FREE (Yes, FREE!!) Pop-Up Stopper from Panicware ... http://www.panicware.com/product_downloads.html ... works for me!

Cheers for the tip. I took your advice and downloaded the freebie from panicware.com. However, after installation, I was asked for a registration code. As I don't have one, I was advised that the program will only work for a 30 day trial period and then cease. Any ideas what to do next? Sad

Maybe the free version will do what you want?

You must have tried to download one of the other versions, but it does say quite clearly on the link I posted ...

Pop-Up Stopper FREE Edition
Surf with style with this free browser pop-up ad-blocking utility for Internet Explorer and Netscape. This program is completely free, and does not require registration to use or download.

If you are using XP SP2 will have it built in out soon. RC1 out now.

For completeness there is also the MSN toolbar with built-in pop-up blocker downloadable for free from Microsoft ... I wonder if this is the functionality that will be built into XP SP2?

No. The SP2 popup blocker is a Internet Explorer setting, and directly built into IE.

Thanks for the telling off!

I uninstalled the first one and downloaded the freebie and guess what - it only bleedin works!

Now that my PC is a porn-free zone again, I can let the missus use it.

Cheers people.

If not Mozilla, use its younger sibling FireFox 0.8 available from the http://mozilla.org website

I've been using EMS Freesurfer for a little over 2 years now, and everything is fine this end...no popups whatsoever.

The best thing is that you can remove the system icon, and it uses very little resources...so ican just happily trundle away and do what it's supposed to do!!

You're a bit out of date. It's up to 0.9.2 now.
