Password protecting a folder on my webspace

Hello all,

well here is anotherperson with problems password protecting a folder on my webspace.

I have put th e.htpasswd and .htaccess files into the folder on my web pages. I chmod'd thses files with 644.

.htacess file includes...

<Files .htaccess>
order allow,deny
deny from all
</Files>
AuthUserFile /share/isp/plusnet/www/sw/swiftinet/htdocs/citrix/fp3/.htpasswd
AuthName "Welcome to swiftinet"
AuthType Basic
require valid-user

.htpasswd file contains

test:test

When I go to www.swiftinet.co.uk/citrix/fp3 i am prompted for a username and password. so I enter test and test. It will not let me in.

What am i doing wrong?

The password in the .htpasswd file should be unix (I think) encrypted. You can convert plain text passwords to unix with this tool.

So your .htpasswd file should look like "test:25uXtRxjMtxvI"
