So, according to the Register (over at http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/01/24/plusnet_update/ ) PN has 178,000 BB users. They keep telling us that they have one 622Mbit central pipe at BT. Assuming that evey one of the 178,000 has only a 512K line, contended at 50:1 (which ignores 1, 2 and 8M users contended, supposedly, at 30:1) then that's 1,822Mbits, or nearly 3 times the available capacity.

Also, as revealed by someone from PN support arround here, the cost of rental of the Central, at £1.7M, works out at only £10 per user per year.

I thought the network was somewhat on the slow side.

No they dont. You are well off the mark there. Have a look at the info here for the real story.

Hope that helps.

Thats a little better. 4.5x622Mbits then. They talk about the cost of 1x622M pipe, which is where I think the confusion comes from.

It's still only a whopping 15.7Kbits/user though.

Hi there,

this thread and the subsequent responses and links from Plus Net staff should help.
