Noobie questions: domain name hosting and my PN webspace...

Current situation:
- my domain name www.s-o-c.org.uk registered with 123-reg.co.uk
- 123-reg web forwarding re-directs this address to my PN webspace, where my webpages are located.

Problem:
- the web forwarding is framed, in order to keep the www.s-o-c.org.uk in the address bar, rather than the longer username.plus.com of PN.
BUT, because it is framed, GoogleBot and others won't see it properly, so I'll never appear in Google!

Presumed solution:-
- have the domain name www.s-o-c.org.uk with the same company where my webspace is.

Because 123-reg is quite good (and cheap) I would like to keep them as the people I have the domain name registered with and renew with and send my money too. But I have reading about name servers and hosting, and whilst I am completely confused, it looks like there is a way to solve my problem! If I do this nameservers transfer thing, and transfer the soc domain name to PN, will that work? (But keep the domain name 'officially registered' at 123-regHuh

Thanks for any advice! Jim.

Hi there,

Welcome to the boards.

One solution would be to host the domain on your plus net account. This should be free, depending on your account type.

Point the ns records for your domain to NS1.Force9.net and NS2.Force9.net and then raise a ticket, following the wizard to request hosting of the domain only. That way registration and renewal will remain with 123.reg.

Bear in mind that your are limited to 250mb data transfer with Plus net hosted domains and this is policed fairly sharply at the moment. If your site is popular you may want to bear this in mind.

Thank you.. that has answered my question. I will do that.

I don't think my website will too popular! It's quite specialist, and really only exists for the purposes of the Club it represents. (No doubt I will now be eating my words in a few weeks' time!)

Thanks for your help!

Noobie questions: domain name hosting and my PN webspace...

I have my domain, www.vicnewey.co.uk, hosted with ' Easily ' ( 2yrs £9.99)

& I selected 'domain masking ' so even tho it points to my +net site it shows my domain in the bar & even better ,Easily inc. a free listing in Google

Yeah, that would work. Unfortunately 123-reg doesn't have that option.. the only option to keep your domain name in the address bar is to redirect within a frame - hence the problems for the Bots...
