More messaging problems...

As i stated before my MSN seems to randomly log me out, i switched to Trillian today to see if it was just MSN but I have the same problem. I was wondering if these Messaging programs see a slight "blip" in a ADSL connection as a disconnect?

MSN Does disconnect sometimes, but a blip in your modem would also cause MSN to drop.

If I update any rules on my router firewall for example, the connection blips and MSN drops.

Well sometimes i get disconnected about 4 times in 10 minutes. Is this normal or too frequent (It really annoys me).

No its not normal.
I get the odd disconnection but they are very infrequent.
Quite often its solid for hours on end.

I have had solid connection for two hours... But I have no doubt I will go through a patch of mass disconnects... All other internet pages etc seem to work fine.

I can download for hours and play online games without getting disconnected, it only seems to be messaging programs that have the problem. I was wondering if anyone had any advice to fix it?

I am using the Binatone ADSL 2100 router with what I think is the latest Firmware.

Please can someone help me? I have been told that it's not normal etc... but I still have no idea how i can stop it. At the moment I cannot have MSN conversation with people as I connect and disconnect so often and as a result miss huge chunks of conversation...

I really need someone to help before i smash my computer..... Evil

Id suggest re-installing messenger. What OS are you using btw?

It doesn't sound like it but bad filters etc can cause disconnects but then if it only occurs when you are using messenger then that probably isn't the problem.

I use MSN, Yahoo and Netmeeting all the time and my connection uptime is currently 132 hours.

I'm using Windows 98... I don't think re-installing will make much difference as It does it on two seperate messaging programs.

Yeah but it could be a corrupt file that is related to both installs, a bad codec or dll that both programs are using.

Hi, I have read lots of threads about problems with MSN messenger. So maybe you should know that MSN messenger 6.2 comes with the Trojan Swizzor.AG. This is an advertising Trojan that is a major pain in the butt. Evil It hijacks pages and installs a search bar at the top or the bottom of the page. There are ways to remove it, (it hides in the system restore). If you think this might be the problem just Google- Swizzor.AG and there are lots of sites out there that offer help to remove it.
I hope this helps someone.

? Have you got any proof MSN Messenger installs it?

Are you sure you are not refering to the software installed when you install Messenger Plus?

I am not computer wizz so it may well be the softwear that come with M.6.2, but the tool bar is MSN as is all the other pop-ups and advertising. In addition, the toolbar and the pop-ups, hickjacking of my homepage, inserting a MSN search page-all only began after installing MSN 6.2. I think you will find that there are several other people that agree that this trojan came with the MSN 6.2 bundle.

Neither of those documents sugest that the MSN toolbar, or MSN Messenger comes with hijack software.

The second document doesn't even mention MSN, whilst the first are HiJackThis reports showing that the MSN toolbar is installed.

Your conclusions that the fact MSN is mentioned are flawed, and are somewhat like saying Porn Dialers are installed by Microsoft office, because software report Office and a Dialer installed at the same time.

I have Msn Messenger 6.2, and there was no spyware/trojans etc with it.

Messenger Plus contained spyware, in fact CWS Small :-(

Indeed, but only if you choose to install it. It is not installed by default, you pick to during installation.
