I was hoping somebody wiser than me would reply, but nobody around yet. Sounds like a tricky one to zap.

Here's what I would do:
- Download HijackThis v.1.99 from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html
(or any of the links given there if that doesn't download)

- Run it and save the log

- There are several forums where you can post that log and get detailed instructions on how to clean your PC. Here's 2 that seem quite good and active:
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/
(this one has a dedicated section to post HijackThis logs)

http://forums.spywareinfo.com/

You could try posting the log here too. I'm sure there are many savvy folk about.

Funny! iSearch offers a "removal" tool !!!

I am surprised that "spybot s&d" and "adaware" could not remove it as they seem able to remove 99% between them. You may have to run both 2 or 3 times to completely remove all they find but normally if they find it they can remove it.
Some Antivirus programmes will do the same with known problems like this.

more info

Will this extra info help!!!Huh
My Spybot S & D tells me:- Problem cannot be fixed reason could be that associated files are still in use (in memory). :?

other messages I get says:- Settings, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISTBAR.

I haven't a clue!

Try running Spybot and Adaware from Safe Mode. Check that System restore is diabled until the worm is gone.

Forgot to say, you have to delete the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISTBAR

I think Spybot gives you the option to remove it. If not you have to Run regedit and delete it yourself.

Trend Micro lists 2 versions of istbar, M and G. There are instructions for removal in these 2 pages:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/grayware/ve_GraywareDetails.asp?GNAME=ADW%5FISTBAR%2EG
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/grayware/ve_GraywareDetails.asp?GNAME=ADW%5FISTBAR%2EM

You could try the free on-line scan first
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
If that doesn't work, then go on to the manual removal.

MANUAL REMOVAL

Hi, I keep trying to the manual removal, however this is what happens:-
Select Run, Type REGEDIT, select Ok, Then the screen just fleashes up and its gone within a split second. So I can't get any further. I am seriously getting fed up with this Istbar!!!!!! Any clues. (Obviously with the instructions for manual removal I am getting close thats why its throwing me off, so thanks for all your patience and help so far)

Hi !

Did you run the online scans with TrendMicro Housecall? There are 2, one for virus and one for spyware. You should run both scans.

If you tried that already and it didn't work, this removal tool by Symanyec/Norton may help. Download:
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxIstbar.exe

1. Save the file to your Windows desktop.

2. Close all running programs.

3. Disconnect the computer from the Internet

4. If you are running Windows Me or XP, turn off System Restore.

5, Locate the file that you just downloaded.

6. Double-click the .exe file to start the removal tool. Click Start and allow the tool to run.

7. Restart the computer.

8. Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.

9. If you are running Windows XP or ME, enable System Restore once you're sure the pests are gone.

Good luck!
