Freeserve Email Problems

Can anyone help, I have just had my broadband activated, everything okay except I now can’t send or receive emails from my Freeserve account via OE unless I use my old Freeserve ‘anytime’ dial up number.

I can however send an email direct from the Freeserve website direct to my Plus Webmail but cannot send visa versa. It just doesn’t arrive until I connect with Freeserve dial up.

I am sure this is a setting error somewhere, have checked all settings in OE and seem to be correct?

Freeserve Email Problems

An update on my last post, I have just read another post from petervaughan stating that you must set your SMTP server on all your email accounts to relay.plus.net. which I have now done and can now send emails from Freeserve in OE. However I still do not receive my Freeserve emails from my Plus account they just move to the sent items folder and are never delivered.

Is this just a Freeserve problem as when I try to check my email on the website I get the message ' The mail server is busy. Please check your mail again in a few moments.'

Freeserve Email Problems

Freeserve currently have mail delays.

Quote
Due the volume of mail that is passing through Freeserve, we are currently experiencing an intermittent delay in the delivery of email to customers.

As a result of this you may find that incoming email is delayed for up to 40 minutes.

Please be assured that Freeserve is working to resolve this issue and that normal service will be restored as soon as possible.

However, there 40 minutes obviously differs from my 40 minutes.

Freeserve Email Problems

Thanks for the update on Freeserve email.

I think my settings must be right now, I will just wait to see how long my test emails take.

Freeserve Email Problems

If you want to post the full headers for the emails you received (if you still have them), we can determin where the delay was for you. Or you can just check the timestamps on each mail server listed and that will tell you.

Re: Freeserve Email Problems

You have to read backwards to see the time delays but it was in Freeserves mail system where the delay occured:

Ok, here goes... You sent the email via relay.plus.net (ptb-relay03.plus.net) on Tue, 16 Mar 2004 16:34:47:
Received: from [212.56.105.233] (helo=RFChadwell)

by ptb-relay03.plus.net with smtp (Exim) id 1B3HWh-000PDt-D8
for richard@chadwell.fsworld.co.uk; Tue, 16 Mar 2004 16:34:47 +0000

This was delivered by Plusnets mail system to freeserve on Tue, 16 Mar 2004 17:46:33+0100 (CET). The +0100 means it was actually received at 16:36:33 i.e. it was delivered to freeserve withing 2 mins of you pressing send:
Received: from ptb-relay03.plus.net (ptb-relay03.plus.net [212.159.14.214])

by mwinf3104.me.freeserve.com (SMTP Server) with ESMTP id A63BD1800041
for <richard@chadwell.fsworld.co.uk>; Tue, 16 Mar 2004 17:46:33 +0100 (CET)

Then an internal transfer within freeserves mail system within 1 second:
Received: from mwinf3104.me.freeserve.com (mwinf3104 [172.22.158.26])

by mwinf3110.me.freeserve.com (SMTP Server) with ESMTP id C159A1846AB1
for <1+fu7000000000000000009155891@back30-mail01-02.me-wanadoo.net>; Tue, 16 Mar 2004 17:46:33 +0100 (CET)

And finally a 60 hour delay within freeserves email system between mwinb3003 (SMTP Server) and mwinf3110.me.freeserve.com (mwinf3110.me.freeserve.com):
Received: from mwinf3110.me.freeserve.com (mwinf3110.me.freeserve.com)

by mwinb3003 (SMTP Server) with LMTP; Fri, 19 Mar 2004 07:32:49 +0100

Before it finally reached your freeserve mailbox - unless you did not pick up your email or check your mailbox within that 60 hour period in which case it's the time you downloaded the mail from your freeserve email account. If you did check regularly witin that 60 hour period it is the delay withing Freeserves mail system.

Cheers

Freeserve Email Problems

Thanks Peter, the information is most helpful, my email is checked each day at approximately 5 minute intervals so it was a very long delay from Freeserve.
