Forum fine but no avatars

Anyone had problems with avatars being displayed. I've uploaded to server but the images don't appear. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Can you see any avatars on the forum?

If you can, then it sounds like you are placing the image in the wrong location, or posting the wrong link to the avatar.

If you can't, then it sounds like either a browser, connection or machine problem.

Yes,acarr there is avatars there as taskforce9 seems to have manged to get one on without any problem so I must be using a wrong link. Mind you I thought I had done it correctly. Ah well, away to have another go.

Many Thanks

If you continue to try, then at some point find that the avatar remains with a red X, leave it like that.

Normaly, a moderator will find it, and point it out to you. Some will even try and locate what the proper link would be, or post some fault finding tips.

Some of this can't be done, until the red X is there.

Or a quicker approach to the above is to post back here once you have the red X, it will all be a bit quicker that way.

No x showing at the moment?

post the Avatar picture you want to use to your htdocs space on the server and then call it by using http:\\www.keithcalder\plus.com\xxxxx.yyy

Obviously xxxxx.yyy is the name of your picture and its format.

Right click on my Avatar and select properties and you will see what I mean.

The URL would actually be http://www.keithcalder.plus.com/xxxxx.yyy

Here goes john,

When I go to my forum, I am getting a red x. I clicked on properties and got the folowing http://cgi.keithcalder.plus.com/phpBB2/images/avatars/2.gif.

Even more confused now :?:

From the url you are giving it seems that you are trying to call a picture from your CGI space ? and not your home pages. That should in fact still work but why complicate the issue?

Post the image to your home pages as listed above and it should make life that little bit easier.

Thanks to csogilvie for pointing out my typo earlier.

Is it an avatar you are uploading to your PHPBB or is it a supplied one? (If any are supplied)

Ahh! the light is begining to dawn here.

I think we are at cross purposes? I thought that you wanted the Avatar to appear here on this forum but now I realise that you are perhaps talking about your own forum on your cgi space?

If so then there is no way that myself or any of the moderators here can do any editing etc to sort it out.

The same rules apply though that you should be able to call up the Avatar just as above.
