Firewall (outgoing)

Hi,

I have the free edition of Zone Alarm firewall and have noticed that it is blocking a number of outgoing (packets?) from such programs as svchost.exe. I am wondering if these are legitimate as the start of the destination IP seems to be the same as that of my router hardware...apart from the fact it had a colon (Smiley and then then number 53. Any ideas?

Firewall (outgoing)

53 is the port number a connection is using and 53 is a DNS lookup (converts a domain name like www.plus.net into an IP address so your browser knows where to get the web pages from.

If the destination is 212.159.6.9 or 6.10 or 13.49 or 13.50, add all 4 IP addresses to your trusted zone (found in the firewall -> zones tab) as they are the PlusNet DNS servers. The blocking should then stop.
