Error: valid RCPT Command must precede DATA

Anyone got any idea what the above means. It is an error report from a Mac running an old version of Outlook express on OS 8.6.

I think it is related to sending of email rather than receiving.

SMTP server set to relay.plus.net

What does it mean ?

Thanks

James

Error: valid RCPT Command must precede DATA

RCPT is a command that contains the email address of the person the email is being sent to. I.e. the To address.

I suspect the to address used was not in the correct format e.g. you may have forgotten the @ or used an invalid character etc. Or you forgot to specify a to address and the mail client tried to send it anyway resulting in it being rejected.

Is this repeatable, and if so can you check you are using the correct to email address. If you have a copy of the email sent, check if you specified a to address at all.

That makes a great deal of sense Peter. The problem was occurring on my Dad's Mac. It was repeatable but unfortunately not any more. If it comes back we i'll know where to look. - Thank you.
