Error code 489

Despite a short but very drawn out conversation with support via the online message system, I'm still unable to get x-lite up and running. I can't make calls - just get a call failed request timeout on the screen, and any incoming calls just go to voicemail.

I've checked the correct ports are forwarded on my belkin router, and support have confirmed my settings are correct in x-lite.

I've checked the diagnostic log, which does have the entry:

"Response code to SIP request did not match any entry specified in retry-response-list. Response: 489[plustalk@xxx.force9.co.uk -> plustalk@xxx.force9.co.uk]"

This occurs whenever i start the software...could this be my problem?

Hi John,

Frankly, DONT waste any more time & effort on this, X-lite & PlusTalk is utter rubbish and No!! your probably doing everything correctly but I doubte you'll ever get it to work. Its the pitts mate, even if it works its rubbish. You'd get a better quality call with a piece of string & two tin cans (but hay! its free!! ya!! great !!).

FREE VOIP!! is abit of a myth IMO, the only successful VOIP services tend to involve buying specialist VOIP kit (VOIP hand-sets) or adapters, and using something like skype or BT's VOIP offering which isnt free.

**Call quality I've heard isnt up to much either, its like a bad mobile call at worst and not quite as good as a good quality mobile call at best.

**I've never heard anyone in these forums rave or compliment F9 on PlusTalk, its a service that requires major improvement & development way beyond what it is now IMO.

**I tried hard to use PlusTalk and it was useless and gave it up as a bad job very quickly, look life's to short for trying to get poor or bad technology worksing no matter how free or attractive it might sound.

Hi Ivan

Thanks for the comments - as I've never had the thing working I'd no idea about the quality. I'll wait and see if support finally come up with a fix (or even a reply), as it would be good too see for myself how bad/good it is - but I won't bother trying to find a solution myself now!

Cheers

Hi John,

I've always had the destinct impression that even F9 techies & comm's people dont have a clue about X-lite and how to fully support this package. The other problem here is F9 bolted on PlusTalk to its services because it looks to all intents & purposes like it didnt want to get left behined by the big boys in the market. The likes of talktalk, BT & others who have come from the opposite direction i.e. telecoms first & added on internet services & broadband. F9 have obviously come from the opposite of that internet first & telecoms added on.

As I said I was completely unwhelmed by PlusTalk & gave up on it pretty quickly, but as you say you need to make your own mind up, thats fine I respect that but I would be very suprised if you came to a very different opinion of PlusTalk & X-lite. Good luck with that, I hope you get more joy out if it than I did.

i agree

I agree,

Xlite is excellent in its version 3. Plustalk is absolutely dire and I only use it for calls that do not require great quality which is 'acceptable' at best. If I was being serious about voip I would go with a serious company tbh.
