Cannot connect to Local Host only Loopback

Hi

Trying to run an email server on my Xp box. Problem is I can only connect to the servers webmail using the loopback address.

IP address of NIC > 192.168.1.3

I need to be able to access 192.168.1.3 from the LAN and incoming over the net

Enter 192.168.1.3 or COMPUTERNAME in the web browser on the computer hosting the server and it will not connect, enter 127.0.0.1 and it works fine.

Ping 192.168.1.3 and it replies and resolves COMPUTERNAME

HELP!!! Cry

What mailserver are you using?
For exchange you can connect to individual mailboxes using the address
http:\\SERVERNAME\exchange\MAILBOXNAME
(The shouty bits are the bits to sub Wink )

Cannot connect to Local Host only Loopback

Hi

Mailserver is Kerio Mail Server 6.0.10 which has a great web front end.

The problem is as I cannot connect using http://192.168.1.3 on the host, setting up NAT forwarding to forward inbound traffic on port 80/443 to 192.168.1.3 on the adsl router will not work

Thanks in advance Cheesy

Cannot connect to Local Host only Loopback

Hi,
Again with exchange, so could be irrelevant, you can replace servername with serverIPaddress.
To find out the /exchange/ part of the address, you could try looking at the internet information services snap in (IIS) and looking for the site name.
Also it is worth checking whilst you are in there, that there are no error etc reported on the site.
Incidentally on the mailserver box, a shared folder is created, and a drive mapped to it from the box (sounds odd I know) this is the folder that the site runs from, so that could give you a clue?
I guess then that you might need to enter http://192.168.1.3/kerio/administrator
(administrator being the mailbox name)
Or again, could be talking out of my ear....

Cannot connect to Local Host only Loopback

Thanks for the info.

Kerio uses its own inbuilt web server so IIS does not get a look in

One point i did not try is

http://192.168.1.3/default/login.php

However, if I was to enter http://127.0.0.1 it would work fine

It just seems that the mailserver is bound to the loopback address and not the local host address

Will change the NIC although all vitals tell me its ok!

Any other idea's would be great!

Cannot connect to Local Host only Loopback

Just an FYI, the 834G does not have loopback, which is whats causing the problem (got the same router and thus, same problem here).

Cannot connect to Local Host only Loopback

Hi

I have the voyager 205 and am using ethernet instead of USB.

Loopback certainly is working, its the local host address that being a problem.

Tasks for this afternoon:

* Change NIC
* Modem hardening
* Check, check, check oh and check again NAT & Firewall rules
* Get drunk if all else fails!

Will report WHEN I get it resolved Evil

Cannot connect to Local Host only Loopback

Just a quick note after loads of work!!

The problem here was caused by.......

Norton Antivirus's Internet Worm Protection

Jeez... I went through everything... Winsock stripdown, IP rebuild the works!

So, anyone that is having problems with the Voyager 205 ADSL Router NOT obeying port forwarding.... this is ya daddy!!

Hope this helps someone cus I have been on it for over 14 hours straight!

YEY!
