It apparently works well.

It does however cause a few issues.

1: It only speeds up general surfing.

Downloads are normally very well compressed as is, resulting in no speed to be gained.

2: The compression used to get the benefits, will cause images on webpages to look rather choppy.

Many are compressed as is, but get compressed more, losing image quality.

Doesn’t onspeed record your surfing habits?

They can do, as the potential is there.

I suggest readng the privacy statement and check how they use the data collected, in accordance with the data protection act.

onspeed is okay but totally pointless if you have broadband.
also i remember reading that all web pages accessed pass through there system first.
also if you want to use the top speed then the image quality becomes really blocky.
saying that i ran it for a few months before i got broadband and found it okay.

you can speed up your own web pages anyway by switching things off in your internet setup like image.
plenty of free stuff out there aswell.
here is an old favourite site of mine that has some brilliant stuff on it.
just have a wee look about. it has something for everyone.

Just a bit more to add.

The speed up depends on your download type: if you download already compressed files, then it wil not help much. I used to download a lot of pdfs (Adbobe) and found it great at speeding those up. So look at what you are downloading and match this against the supported file types on their site.

Cheers, Mike
