Re: webmail down again?

I think it was a case of one of the servers having an issue, which we've now upgraded - so you should stop seeing those errors now with any luck. Let me know if they come back and I'll give the networks team a shout.

Re: webmail down again?

Thank you for reply Matt - glad that the error has been found and hope that it will now be OK.

Re: webmail down again?

Have to admit, SquirrelMail is still very slow for me.
I have about 400 messages in my inbox not because I'm lazy but because I use Outlook at home which is set up to leave 1 months emails @ plusnet (A hard disk recently died on me and I lost all my recent emails)
It's only recently (last couple of weeks) that SM seems slow though.

Re: webmail down again?

Still very slow for me too and I have about 340 emails in my inbox.

Re: webmail down again?

Maybe it is my imagination but SM seems to have been a bit livelier since I emptied it of stored emails. I too had about 300 or so - might it be worth you clearing it too? It would be interesting to see if it had the same effect.  Huh

Re: webmail down again?

This work was intended to fix the problem once and for all but doesn't look like it has Sad
We've raised another internal problem (ref: 61848) and our engineers are looking into things. I'll get a Service Status posted...
Edit: just posted this:
[quote author="Service Status"]Webmail problems (61848) - NEW
We have recently been made aware of a problem some customers are experiencing when trying to view messages or navigate around our Webmail interface.
Trying to open an email or navigate to a new page/frame may result in a blank white screen.
Our engineers are investigating and further details will be provided as they become available.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
Kind Regards,

Re: webmail down again?

Right, looks like Apache was 'segfaulting' on one of the Webmail servers yesterday. Incidentally it happened to another of the servers back on the 8th too. In a nutshell, the maintenance work we carried out last month doesn't look to have done the trick Sad
I'm going to clear the Service Status post as this is no longer happening however the internal problem will be left open for further investigation. Please shout up if you notice problems again.
Edit:
[quote author="Service Status"]Webmail problems (61848) - RESOLVED
This is an update to this morning's post about the problems some customers may have been experiencing trying to view messages or navigate around our Webmail interface.
Our network engineers have identified a problem that affected some of the Webmail servers yesterday. As the problem is no longer evident we're closing this Service Status thread.
We're going to monitor the service and will continue with our investigations should there be a reoccurrence of the problem.
Kind Regards,

Re: webmail down again?

OK we're going to try uninstalling eAccelerator from the Webmail servers today. It has a history of causing Apache segfaults and it's for this reason that we uninstalled it from our portal servers a while back.
As I mentioned in my previous post, do shout up if the whitescreening problem resurfaces...

Re: webmail down again?

Hmmm...
Seeing "Fixed some bugs (and probably added some)" on the changes list for the latest version doesn't fill one with confidence!

Re: webmail down again?

Are you sure you read my post right jelv? We're *uninstalling* eaccelerator, not upgrading it or installing it.

Re: webmail down again?

I read it right. I was just thinking that that note didn't fill me with confidence in eAccelerator (and that removing it was probably a smart move).
Which version were you running?

Not 100% sure TBH jelv and the engineer who was looking into the problem is supposed to be in Rome so I can't really ask them (assuming of course that their attempts to get there haven't been scuppered by a certain volcano!)
