spam blocking outgoing email "due to spam or virus"

Plusnet is blocking an engineering support email I'm trying to send a client. I'm getting back the report "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded:  Cap91w0032SlFDQ01apAgb message rejected due to spam or virus. If you believe this is in error please login to your portal or contact your ISP support team. Please check the message and try again." (I use Thunderbird rev. 52.3.0). Well, I DO believe this is in error, and an annoying one at that.

It seems to take exception to an intranet web address in my message, quote "http://192.168.1.177". If I cut this address out, or just the "http:" in front of it, Plusnet has no problem. I got around it by rephrasing my instruction "access the http address //192.168.1.177" which I hope is clear enough, but it's a pain to be tripped up like this and have to waste time finding out why.

Please, Plusnet, spare us idiocies like this.

Re: spam blocking outgoing email "due to spam or virus"

That string will be matching one of the spam fingerprints provided by these folk.

There will be a good reason it ended up on a naughty list, and whilst occasional inconvenient, these measures are in place for the greater good. It causes a great deal more hassle when our relay servers get blacklisted Wink

Must admit though, this one is a little questionable with it being a private IP.

I've submitted a support request to ask for this particular fingerprint to be removed/reset.

Re: spam blocking outgoing email "due to spam or virus"

Thanks for picking this up so quickly, Bob. There are probably technical reasons why it's not been done (as well as being a gift to spammers), but it would be really helpful if the mail server could identify to the sender what it finds objectionable in a message it rejects. It would save a tedious process of iteration and elimination.

Cheers

Tim

It would also make it very easy for spammers Wink

Edit: Just realised you said as much in your preceding reply.
