Re: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format"

John,
Sorry to be a pain, but any chance you could paste the headers into a .txt file in Notepad (or similar)? The use of PDFs could be masking the problem, for example there is a line break in the MIME header of the 'MIME Silver' e-mail but this could well have been introduced during the construction of the PDF and not be present in the original headers:
Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="----
=_NextPart_e17f01813855aec47aa72e07498a223e"

Copying and pasting directly into a text file ought to minimise risk of these sort of errors being introduced. Ensure that the e-mail body is always posted too (i.e. not just the headers)

Hi Mathew,
I have tried to upload the files  in TXT format but your system will not allow TXT files.
I like your Cat feeder project.

Re: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format"

Ah, okay.
You could just post the headers and body into code brackets - just hit the # button above the message composition window and paste your stuff in between,
By the way, it's not my system!  Wink

Re: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format"

Thanks,
The way I see it here, MIME Silver.pdf & More MIME today email.pdf should display normally in OE.
The other two are meant to display in OE inline (within the preview pane) in the way you describe they should not be.
Can you confirm this is the case?
If so, the problem is the sender. Both problem messages were generated and sent by Lotus Notes which is quite probably breaking the messages. The two that I feel show normally were generate by two methods other than Lotus Notes.
If this is not the case, we need further examples again.

This is a multipart message in MIME format.

That e-mail is incorrectly formatted, and does not confirm to the MIME spec.
In particular, it is stating that it is a multipart MIME message (i.e. a message with multiple parts, in this case containing alternative versions of the same message (plain text and HTML)) and yet it is not providing a boundary delimiter line in both the headers and the body.
Outlook Express therefore does not know where one body part starts and the other stops so it is taking the easy way out and displaying the whole thing as one. As you say it appears clearly in webmail so one can only assume that it must be taking a step further and working out where the seperation lies.
Unless the boundary reference is being stripped out (unlikely) then I'd say it was a Lotus Notes issue i.e. a problem with the sender's client. Ordinarily I'd say that was unlikely too given this is simple stuff, but then the evidence before us suggests otherwise.

Re: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format"

I would also suggest temporarily disabling your e-mail scanning too as it may well be stripping the key headers out (quite why I don't know but it is worth ruling out either way).

Re: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format"

Hi Phil and Mathew,
Many thanks for both your input.  I am now going to view all emails in WEBMAIL first. If I see an email from the people I know have sent previosly with the Message about Mime before I down load to my OE I will disable my incoming email scanning and see what happens when it comes into OE and I will let you know the results.
Many thanks again and you have restored my faith in customer support and suggesting that it is not my system that is causing the problem. I did not want to have to go to all the agro of rebooting the hard drives with a fresh start.

Re: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format"

Hello Mathew and Phil,
I got my friend to send me the email again with and without email scanner on.
With email scanner on which was yesterdays email I got all the usual rubbish but this morning I got him to send the email again, I turned my email scanner off it came into OE perfectly clear. I have pasted the two headers here. Is this enough to make a conclusion it may be my anti virus email scanner?

Re: "This is a multi-part message in MIME format"

The email scanner seems to be adding an extra Content-Type tag to the header, as "text/plain"!
No wonder it's messing up.
That's RPM to you!!
