Spent hours on this problem. Talked through the setup of emails from Pn account by Matt from Pn. I am back where I started I can receive mail but not send. Settings are as Matt explained and as I have read on this forum but I still cannot send a test message to myself which I receive. Help please have IPad Air latest version

I don't have an iPad Air, but assuming set-up is the same as an iPad Mini I suggest working through the following
Tap the Settings icon, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Under Accounts - top right
Tap you Plusnet mail account entry
Tap Account
Make sure your Email entry is correct
I assume Incoming Mail settings are OK since you can receive mail
Under Outgoing Mail Server
Tap SMTP then tap the Primary server entry
The Server slider should be Green (On)
Hostname relay.plus.net
Username your account name (or accountname+mailboxname)
Password your account password (or the mailbox password)
Use SSL should be grey (Off)
Authentication should be Password (tap and change if it isn't)
Server Port 587
Tap Done then Account
Scroll down and Tap Advanced
Make sure Deleted Mailbox is ticked
Incoming Settings will already have Use SSL off since it's working
Back to account, then tap Done and back to Mail, etc
I don't know if this is strictly necessary but restarting the device will ensure any changed settings will take effect. Then try mail again.
Hope that helps

David, Thank you so much for your help. Very useful; I shall try this out.
Please forgive my lack of immediate response but I have had lots of trouble logging back in.

Despite help I am still having problems setting up mail on ipad air.. Is this because I have pop email on my computers and trying to get Imap on ipad? I have followed all the suggestions but something is wrong somewhere and I wondered if this is cause. My computers are not connected by wifi

If POP3 mail collection is set up on your main computers, unless their collection options have been set to "leave a copy on the server" there will be nothing in your inbox for the iPad to see. Technically it should "work" but the mailbox will usually be empty.
Is that what you mean by "problems on the iPad", is it that the mailbox is always empty? To check you could try shutting down your main computers (so they won't collect mail) then send a message to yourself (from your iPad to yourself should work). Any luck with that?
David
