Welcome to the forums.
This could be due to the "mailbox behaviours" settings being to store sent messages on your iPad rather than on the server. To check:
In Settings: Mail->Accounts, tap an account name then
Tap Account to show its settings. Scroll to the bottom and tap Advanced.
Tap each of the Drafts , Sent and Deleted Mailbox lines in turn and select Drafts, Sent and Trash respectively, in the "On the server" section.
Backtrack one level and tap Done, then continue exiting.
Hopefully this will fix the problem.
