iMap settings on Amazon Fire - unable to open server connection

I don't know if anyone can help at all.
I'm trying to set up the Plusnet email account using the IMAP settings on an Amazon Fire - it had been working fine but recently, it stopped working.
The message that now comes up in the email app is 'unable to open server connection'. We bought a new fire to try and get it working but the message is still the same on the new one.
So... I downloaded outlook and tried to set up the IMAP using the settings advised on the plus net website and the message comes up "the connection to your email server timed out. Please check your email settings."
Any advise would be welcome - again, this is a recent problem - up to December it has been working fine, but it seems to have just changed.

A warm welcome to the forums. Just to be sure, have you moved away from Plusnet? Plusnet no longer offer free email to non-customers.
Server timeout can also be associated with there being a large mail item in the mailbox. Can you access the mailbox using webmail?
Finding out what alternatives you can / cannot do is key to sorting out what is going wrong on the tablet.
I have a fire tablet and can access my Plusnet mail without issue, using both the native application and outlook.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I am still a PlusNet customer and haven't switched at all - up to December, things were working fine.
I can access the webmail mailbox and there are no large emails on there - for some reason, the settings listed online are not working on either the email app or Outlook on the Amazon Fire.
Thanks for your help.

Just double checked on my Fire Tablet: Surprised to see that Outlook does not appear to offer the means to inspect or edit the server settings on an established account.
Have you tried the RESET ACCOUNT option under setting in Outlook (click the cog and then the account name).
Also check the WiFi settings - go to advanced and do the speed test. Check the WiFi details - if connected to the 2.4MHz channel, swicth WiFi off on the tablet, wait a short while then turn it on again and see if the connection switched to 5MHz. I just did and the connection went from 6mbps to 28mbps.
Try the email connection again.

Is the tablet also connecting to an Outlook mail box? Has 2FA been configured for that mailbox? Might the time out you are seeing relate to some other email address ... and the tablet is abandoning the other transfers?
What version of Fire OS are you running? I am on 7.3.2.6 - which I note was updated early November 2022.
What version of Outlook for Amazon are you on? I am on 4.2227.4 Updated 7th August 2022.
...clutching at straws at the moment!

Thanks for this - it is a mystery.
I'm trying it on a new Amazon Fire, so it's the latest version of that.
There are no other email addresses on it - just trying the PlusNet one. Tested WiFi on different networks too and the same result. It really is a mystery...

Just to be sure nothing has been assumed here - are any of those networks Plusnet ones? Specifically are ALL of the networks this is failing on NOT Plusnet networks?
Are you currently in the UK?
Is there a VPN involved?

Thank you.
Been tried on both a PlusNet and a non-PlusNet network.
Yes, I'm based in the UK and none of the networks are VPN.
Thanks for looking into this.
