Re: hope this not a dupe post ..transfer my bt mail to plusnet email addy

I cannot answer your question re PN mail as I primarily use Gmail.

I can say that it is possible to transfer BT email folders to Gmail but it is a manual process of creating new folders in Gmail and transferring the emails from each bt folder. I used Thunderbird email client to do that.

The other main benefit of using Gmail, or outlook.com or gmx etc is that you can change ISPs as many times as you like and keep the same email address:-)

Indeed, ISP provided email is a relic of the past.

Use an independent Email provider as mentioned above..

Just in case anyone else stumbles on this thread.

You can in fact transfer mail between any mail providers if they provide IMAP/POP3 access to your email. I use a Windows program called Mailstore (www.mailstore.com) that's intended for backing up your email to your local machine but can also export the email back out to an IMAP mailbox. You need to know the server details of both providers but it works really well when I moved over to using Plusnet email. I know there are other tools available for Windows, Linux and Mac too.

I have not tried this but Google have a guide on how to import old emails from another email account.

If you want to use Thunderbird then you could add the second/new mailbox to thunderbird and drag/copy the mail over to the new one and let Thunderbird do the work.

Depending on how much mail you've got though, my experience of doing it that way hasn't been super reliable.

thank you again Smiley

i did use thunderbird but i have also backed up with  mailhome

so my options are open  and i think we often keep email just incase so maybe over time i'll delete most of it

anyway Smiley
