email sent to BT address "Message rejected for policy reasons"

Just in the last day or so I have started to receive the following bounced message from any email I send to any '@btopenworld.com' or  '@btinternet.com'  address.

A message that you sent to the following recipient could not be delivered due to a permanent error. ** The remote server 65.20.0.49 responded with: ** phil@btopenworld.com 554:Message rejected for policy reasons (3.2.2.1) - Please report any problems to BT via the postmaster@btinternet.com mailbox and include your sending ip address with an example header of your email This message was created automatically by mail delivery software on the server avasout04.

I have copied in the header from the last email to be bounced in case that helps.

What little research I have done suggests my IP address in on a blacklist somewhere.

Can anyone explain what is happening please.

Thanks.

PS For what its worth, I have reported it to the postmaster address.

(PPS addresses have been modified to protect the innocent:-)

Re: email sent to BT address "Message rejected for policy reasons"

If you do a search you'll find many reports of this problem when sending messages to btopenworld and btinternet addresses, but it's unlikely you'll find a solution. I think the "policy reason" is probably that the message is judged to be spam, but they won't confirm that or tell anyone why that happens because to do so would help real spammers avoid the traps.

Does your email contain website links (especially if preceded by http://) in the body text or signature? Does it still fail if you remove any of these?

Re: email sent to BT address "Message rejected for policy reasons"

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Mostly the emails were plain vanilla text, but some did have links, but they were all rejected.

I tried another bunch of emails just now, mix of both plain text and ones with links and so far they have gone through afaics.

Typical - emails rejected this morning & now after posting for help it seems to be magically fixed! Even had a reply back - so all seems well now.

It’s the Plus-net experience - its pure magic:-)

Thanks once again David.
