email issues with apple upgrades

hi

just signed up and hope there is some help out there. I have an old freenetname email address which was taken over by madasafish and now plus net.

never had an issue until i upgraded the operating software on my MacBook air to OS high sierra 10.13.5 and lost emails on it.

connection doctor isn't changed but nothing works to reinstate it. there shouldn't be an issue as i still get emails on my old PC but can't reinstate on the MacBook.

I raised with support she months back but they couldn't do anything.any ideas?

should i  try and interest apple ?

thanks in advance

Re: email issues with apple upgrades

Hi there, if you download your emails through POP3 you may have lost them during the OS upgrade unfortunately.

In order to get email up and running again it's likely you'll need to re-enter the settings shown here: https://www.plus.net/help/email-guides/how-to-set-up-plusnet-email/

Re: email issues with apple upgrades

I searched for "high sierra loses emails" on the web and it seems to be a common problem. Its worth a look.

Re: email issues with apple upgrades

thee instructions don't cover my domain @freenetname.co.uk and the mac doesn't recognise the email address which seems the only way it will allow set up. Is there another route?

thanks

@map what details are you needing to know about your Freenetname e-mail address?

thanks

the server settings for freenetname rather than plus net.

I do wonder if because its a legacy email i should just dump it and use gmail?

Re: email issues with apple upgrades

Incoming mail server should be mail.freenetname.co.uk and outgoing mail server is smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk

The username is your Freenetname email address and the password is your account password.

Incoming POP3 port is 110 or if you’re using IMAP it’s 143.
Outgoing SMTP port is 25 or 587

Make sure you don’t connect using something called SSL.

I hope this helps.
