With reference to the Gmail fiasco

Although they claim their actions on email are 'to cut down on spam', they are quite happy to allow their 'Groups' to originate it.

In the last three or four months, I have been inundated with blindingly obvious spam which originates from a couple of 'GoogleGroups', although they are forwarded through at least four intermediary addresses, presumably to try and hide their origin.

I reported about ten of these from from the first offenders, and now only receive maybe a couple a week from them, but unfortunately it appears they have a back-up 'group' which is sending at least three spoofs a day.

Because I have a 'screening' program (MailWasher) in front of my email client, this carp never reaches my inbox - I either delete them via webmail before processing, or allow MW to discard them, but it is still a right pain in the neck.

Re: With reference to the Gmail fiasco

I've a "history" (going back more than 12 moths) of unanswered e-mails addressed to a specific gmail recipient. No replies. No NDRs. Nada. That person is checking (in their own time). That person uses other means of communication so it is feasible that their inbox was and has not been not checked. This may (or may not) provide confirmation of a gmail 'black hole'.

Re: With reference to the Gmail fiasco

Don't quite know how useful that is - the person who has definitely not received these  emails uses Gmail as their default client, so knows for a fact they haven't got them.

In any case, this topic was created to demonstrate Googles double standards - they are quite happy to allow Google Groups to send spam, but are taking draconian steps to prevent legit traffic in.

Re: With reference to the Gmail fiasco

(1) the person I've talked to hasn't accessed their gmail inbox for some time (over a year). Therefore it may provide insight as to when any 'blockages' started to occur. It may take a week or so before I get an answer.

(2) I can't comment on spam from googlegroups. I have never received any e-mails from googlegroups (spam or otherwise).

(3) I have no underlying love of google.
