Windows Live Mail issue

Hi everyone
I've got a bit of an odd issue with Windows Live Mail and I wondered if anyone has come across this. Its been going on for over a year but I've just been living with it. I have my PlusNet email account set as Imap and it sends and receives without any trouble at all. However, quite often, when you double click to open an unread message a box pops up saying:
"Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems or a long period of inactivity."
I can still read the message ok, however when the client next syncs with the imap server it marks the message as new and unread, which is annoying. This is most likely to happen if I try and open a new message within about 10 seconds of it coming in, but it can also happen if I've been away from the pc and the message has been sat there for ages.
All the Windows Live Mail settings are entered correctly. Ive reinstalled it a couple of times, and the pc that its on has been wiped and reinstalled within the year with no change. I know its not an issue with my router or anything, as Thunderbird doesn't have this problem at all, neither does my Android Mail app on my phone. I've tried changing the anti-virus in case that was having an effect, but it seems not.
I cant think of anything else to try. And this issue only occurs with my PlusNet Imap account. There were no issues when it was set as Pop. Also, Gmail and other accounts don't show the issue either.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. If its a PlusNet thing then somebody else must have seen this before Smiley

Re: Windows Live Mail issue

I've not seen any other reports of this behaviour using Live Mail if I'm honest. Is it just the one Plusnet account you have set up? I'm wondering if it might be something to do with a particular message/subset of messages on the server. Bit random but if I were you I'd try moving all of your mail into a new folder underneath the Inbox and see if it helps. You can always move it back afterwards if it doesn't.

Re: Windows Live Mail issue

Hi Bob
It didn't make an difference I'm afraid. I must admit I've never seen a mail client do this before, and I've been setting them up for over 10 years! I've fiddled with all the various settings with no luck. The glaringly obvious solution would be to switch to Thunderbird, as that didn't do it, but I'd love to figure out why WLM is behaving like this.
