Can somebody please explain, in non techy language, why I cannot use Windows 10 Mail with my Plusnet email. I was talking to a Plusnet adviser on line yesterday evening and they advised that it is compatible with some accounts and not others. This does not seem logical to me. Many thanks in advance.

AFAIK Windows 10 mail is compatible with all Plusnet accounts but I've heard tell of the settings needing to be adjusted at the Plusnet end in a few cases. Better to post to the Email section of this forum.

Thank you for the replies. I have been through the account settings although at no point did it ask for the ports so that may well be the problem. I have spoken to one of our Techy guys at work and he thinks he has the solution which I shall try later. The question remains though - why did Plusnet tell me it wasn't compatible. I think I was just being fobbed off.

For info - I eventually got this sorted, so Plusnet did fob me off.
You have to enter imap.plus.net:143 and relay.plus.net:25 as there is not a separate box to enter the port numbers as detailed in the link that you mentioned. For those of us who are not technically minded this kind of thing is an utter pain in the backside and wastes an inordinate amount of time.
Thanks for trying to help anyway. I normally find Plusnet extremely helpful but this is one of their fails.

Sorry you were told it wasn't compatible (it is). I don't really understand why you needed the port numbers though. These settings work fine for me:

Hi Bob,
Sadly this makes no difference. As of yesterday, (after I added the port numbers) I can receive email but I still cannot send. Still not sure why this is.

You have specified the correct email address when configuring the software haven't you? i.e. <something>@<username>.plus.com
The username/password combo should be the same as that you use to log into the Plusnet website.

Hi Bob,
Yes I have. I've followed your instructions to the letter. I now have an error code 0x80072af9.

Is the Plusnet email address associated with a subscription account? You will not be able to use SMTP authentication on a free account.
