What happens to my mailbox when I leave?

I am leaving plusnet in a short time, going to live somewhere else where basic connection is provided. What I want to know is what happens to my mailbox. I appreciate that I will not be able to use the SMTP server but will I be able to download mail from the mailbox or alternatively will my mailbox simply be deleted.

unless you pay £20 per year it will be deleted and all email facilities removed

Thank you that was what I thought but I was hopefully. Back to plan b and carry on fighting gmail.

I, too, am moving home soon to a new build in a different town where the broadband and phone line are supplied to the house by seethelight as part of the build.  So after 10 happy years with Plusnet, I am having to leave them - at least for a while. 
Is there a way to retain my current Plusnet email address with the new provider, and where do I find information about what happens to the contents of my Plusnet mailbox?  I've gone through the Support Pages on the Plusnet site.
