What does this error message mean?

I keep getting this message: "An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.plus.net responded: " when I send email. What does it mean and is my email being sent?

What incoming port is being used? As far as I know it should be either 110 or 25.

@Mav

Port 25 is for SMTP (out going) connections.
