Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

But Plusnet doesn't allow for secure email forwarding.

Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

Is that with reference to my comments regarding my work emails? If so, PN are not the email provider for my work mails.

Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

PN's webmail is a https site, so secure in that respect.

But IMAP or POP access passwords are sent in clear text - so if you use a proper email client, there is no security.

Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

I see what you mean - thanks for clarifying.

PN have said that Webmail is a complimentary service and that it is not part of the core product that we pay for. However,  it seems that they are not providing a solution which emulates the operation of Webmail.

If they did I'd gladly shift from Webmail because it is absolutely useless at present.

Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

I came across https://mail2web.com some time ago but hadn't tried it until now. You need to use the Advanced Login screen to access your Plusnet mailbox because server and login names can't be determined from the email address. However it does work including for sending replies; these are sent via their own SMTP server.

Only the Inbox is accessed and deleted messages are removed completely. For copies of sent messages you have to send a copy to yourself.

Setting up Personal Webmail would offer more options but I haven't investigated that.

Thanks David.

I will give it a try and feed back my findings.

Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

Well this is working and deletes the email from the PN server which is what I require.

Visually it isn't as good as Webmail but it's working which is more that Webmail is for most of the day.

Thanks for the link, if I find something else I'll post an update.

mail2web.com says Angry

To ensure customers receive the highest possible level of service, SoftCom may randomly monitor telephone, email and/or instant chat support sessions. Any such monitoring is done between SoftCom’s customers and employees for evaluation purposes by supervisors. This is solely done to guarantee the highest level of service and to ensure accurate information is provided in a professional manner.

Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

Thank you.

That now rules that out!!

Actually, when I loaded it for the first time I noticed it was trying to connect to ad.doubleclick.net and I closed the page.

It didn't do it the second time of trying.

Re: What Alternative To Webmail?

Any email client is going to need to access PN mail via unsecure methods.

If this is a concern, then you need to move your email to a different platform.

I'm working on using Thunderbird & IMAP (with plain text passwords); this appears to have some quite good archiving facilities.
