Re: Unable to send from 'relay.plus.net' using password authentication

@maverickuk2017

After checking your account again I can see you've got a free mail account which means that you won't be able to send using a mail client such as Outlook Express.

If you're wanting to send we could convert the account to Plusnet Mail for £1.06 per month. Alternatively, you should be able to send using webmail at http://webmail.plus.net

Can I suggest that you go to http://email.plus.net and create a new mailbox called (say) smtp. You will set a password specific to that mailbox.
You can then use the that mailboxe's credentials (yourusername+smtp) for sending emails for any Plusnet mailbox and the password you use is dissociated from your main Plusnet password which would avoid such issues in the future.

@jelv Looking into doing just that and I have a question

Will using that login for verification count as accessing it or just accessing it without any emails being received prevent it being archived

Re: Unable to send from 'relay.plus.net' using password authentication

@Oldjim From posts on Page 2 (counting in 15s) it is clear that using a mailbox only for authentication doesn't prevent that mailbox from being archived after 90 days and blackholed after 180 days. However even if either of those events happens it doesn't prevent use of the mailbox for authentication.

To prevent archiving and/or reset access after blackholing the mailbox needs to be fetched from - there being nothing to fetch shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Unable to send from 'relay.plus.net' using password authentication

I never tried to log in to the mailbox I used for authentication so have no idea if it was archived or not - I think it probably was. I had been using that technique for a long time before I made that post and continued to do so until last November so even if it was archived it caused me no issues.

Re: Unable to send from 'relay.plus.net' using password authentication

Hi

Yes, I'd like to go for this option, too as I'm not with plusnet for Broadband and it would allow me to send email from Thunderbird away from home...

How can i do this, please? I've looked on the web-site and can't find the option

Thanks in advance

Regards

David

Re: Unable to send from 'relay.plus.net' using password authentication

@Gandalf

I would like to take up this option of moving to an e-mail account, too, so I can send force9 e-mails from non Plus net locations without using web-mail.

Many thanks

David
