Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

What is wrong with Squirrel mail:
1) to get the next mail chronologically, I have to click on 'previous' - Huh
2) I'm still getting spam!

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

I almost left in May when I began to be deluged with SPAM. Since being given the spam folder option on SM I now only have to check that nothing has gone into the SPAM folder by mistake. However I don't understand why every now and then regular emailers to me suddenly go into the SPAM folder (5 so far today)? I always send to spam/nonspamchecker when something does get into the wrong box and would be good to be able to do that at the touch of a button. I also don't understand why viagra/porn stuff has to be let through - could it not be deleted even before it got to my SPAM folder? I am pleased to say though that hardly any spam gets through to my Inbox now which is good. With regard squirrelmail I am pleased with it, I like its speed and simplicity. I couldn't care less what it looks like as long as it continues to work well. Thanks!

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

I don't know about Thunderbird but with Outlook you can leave a copy of the email address on the server

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

SquirrelMail is fast but has not prevented some of the problems experienced previously, e.g. unwelcomed SPAMS still get through. Email without spell check and without the ability to alter, colour or modify the font is frustrating. Maybe I'm missing something? The address book is an improvement, but I can't find a way to create group emails, again, am I missing something? Keep trying guys and women at Plusnet.

I've tried to get thunderbird to access the mail server but it wont, it worked until you started this new webmail.  I would prefer not using thunderbird/outlook etc as it automatically download all my messages off the server onto that computer when you set it up. I use multiple computers at work/away.

If you set up your mail in Outlook or Thunderbird as an IMAP acount and use imap.plus.net as your incoming server you can access your mail accross multiple machines as all the mail is kept on the server until you delete it. It wil also allow you access to any folders you've set up in your web mail account (and the spam folder).

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

I have to say I am really surprised that so many people are in favour of squirrelmail. I have put up with it only because I thought it was temporary. I don't like the presentation/ format and I find it difficult to find the functions I want. However my main complaints are that I do not receive emails in a format where I can read all aspects of the email or make links or view pictures - I have tried all the options available. I also find that I am now receiving huge amounts of spam and I cannot find any way of stopping this. If I am missing something then maybe it needs to be made more clear but at the moment I am very dissatisfied with the service.

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

Though it does the job, it's not very impressive I have to admit.
I rarely use it myself, only just to check one account that gets spammed the most which I don't have open on Outlook Express.
It seems so dated to me.  Reminds me off the old ping pong TV game that was one of the first games we could play on our TV sets.    Games have advanced light years since then.      Squirell Mail is stuck in a time warp!!!

Have you enabled the spam protection under Manage My Mail in Email Settings on the portal

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

SquirrelMail is fine but needs a spam/not spam function to improve spam detection.

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

I like squirrel mail, its nicer than the last one, but im not too sure about the spam thingy on there.  Is it actually blocking spam or just giving the option to move it before you download it to your own computer?
How about a "block list" where we can put email addresses we know we dont want?  dont know if thats possible, but its just a thought.  other than that the rest of it is pretty good  Smiley

Are my addresses lost forever? When I asked the Helpteam about this they said they were planning to restore the addresses at some point - but nothing seems to have happened.

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

Ok, well my feedback would be as follows.
On @mail - I HATED this system it was unusable in IE (stupid popups, slow, odd layout) and even though better in firefox (i.e. the simple interface) it just annoyed me all the time.
Squirrelmail.  Brilliant!  fast simple to use and has a good (if slightly ugly) layout.  The ONLY thing this system needs is a better skin to please general users.  Personally i love it the way it is.  It works and it works well!

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

I don't know whether you're happy to divulge or not, but what alternative systems have you been looking at, and what (if any) have been actively considered? I'm sure many of us have used other systems with other providers and could provide some input of experiences with those tools.
Ultimately, a webmail system is probably not intended to be your day-to-day e-mail handling system. My tuppence on the matter:
Advs of SquirrelMail
-- Speed
-- Simplicity
-- Fit for purpose
Disadvs
-- Handling of HTML mail (especially sending, but also receiving)
-- Look and feel (a bit bland, and sometime unintuitive)
-- Frames (just a bad thing)
-- Folder management
I know skins are there to address look and feel, and I've changed by fonts, too. It's hard to argue for a change in design, because it will ultimately impact on performance (even if just a little), but I'm thinking even small changes would help.
Shortcut options (as already mentioned by loads of people) for spam/not spam would be nice. And HTML support for receiving/sending messages is really a must.

Re: SquirrelMail : Do you dig it?

SquirrelMail does all that I need and does it quickly and I prefer it to the previous @mail version.

Yes I enabled the spam protection we squirrelmail was first introduced and it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
