Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Can I also just state my opinion, that I feel this did belonged in the, "Other Queries," section:
This isn't related to Plus Net's email hosting, it's about the email addresses we have used as our billing contact address being compromised.
When I first came to look on the forum for this, I read down the list, hesitated and sucked through my teeth when I got to, "Email," then carried on down the list before selecting, "Other Queries," and finding Alan's post stating exactly what I was seeing.
Maybe it's just my interpretation, as the description does read, "The home for all queries about email and spam protection," but I think maybe the thread has suffered as a result of the move,

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

This topic should have been right at the top in Feedback - I believe there was some input from Plusnet that may have influenced it's diminished visibility.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Right...
My emails had stopped for a while, and I hoped for the best.
That hope has just been dashed.

They have  have just begun again. Same format as before, yada yada yada.
So, I'm now in a position of having spam to an address that has never had it bofore, due to Plusnet's (at best) negligence.
There is nothing I can do to stop this spam, other than paying for an external anti-spam service or completely changing my email service that is used  by hundreds of contacts. If I have to do something like that, then the cost should lie with Plusnet for the service and my inconvenience.

I am now going to make a formal complaint to my MP about the matter and Plusnet's loss of my personal data. I suggest everyone effected do the same, snce the matter has clearly not ended. More voices with MPs = more likelyhood of something being done.

If anyone wonders about the use of complaining to MPs, I've had to do so a few times now and it has always had a positive result.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Have you actually tried unsubscribing from the emails? In my case this has been 100% successful.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

No, but since they have restarted, I'll give it a go. There's nothing to lose now. Several more have arrived since I last posted.
EDIT to add: Well, I would if it would let me click the unsibscribe link. Outlook won't, it won't let me copy it, even exporting to a word doc and opening that won't let me use that link. It's certainly a very long page of gibberish when I hover over it. I give up.

@Plusnet - I'm still going ahead now with a formal complaint, as requested by my MP when I first spoke to him about this and I said to wait because the emails seemed to have stopped.
If you wish to contact me directly to discuss this matter please do so. You do have my email address, after all. I'm not going to waste my time contacting you otherwise.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Yep - I'm being flooded with them now. I'm absolutely furious at Plusnet! This is exactly what I feared, but hoped would not happen.
I was asked to get a formal letter from PN about the issue, so I asked for one, being very specific about what I was asking for. I got a one-liner response saying simply "PN does not give out your personal information".
PN don't give two hoots about this and are completely ignoring us.
Well, this is going to cost money now because if this keeps up the way it has for the last two days, I'm going ot be looking for a new email service - I'm not going to foot the bill for all of that hassle myself!!!
PN - you are digging yourself well and truly into a hole by ignoring your customers whom you have severely let down. I'm not the type to just let things go when it gets to this level.
ETA: I still can't click on any of the misspelled unsubscribe links in tha spam. I would forward the emails to PN, but of course PN don't allow us to have their email address. How ridiculous is that for an ISP???

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Yes, me too.
I've had them all re-directed to my spam account but I just checked it and they're flooding in.
Each spam Email is received by the plusnet address in question and also by an Email address I once gave to Tui (The travel company - Thomson / First choice etc.).
BTW, who moved my thread to the Email forum?, this is not an appropriate place for it!

Can you copy and paste the text from the whole footer with the unsubscribe link? I just want to check we're still talking about the same spam source.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Certainly can... it's different, but the format of the emails is exactly the same (title with email address in parentheses, overall layout). Feels like the same people trying to look like they are someone else, and failing miserably.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

My guess is that the initial emails were tests to validate the email addresses. Once someone clicked the unsubscribe link that was a confirmed email and they didn't need to test that email address any more. Now the real spamming is starting and the confirmed emails are going to suffer.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Jelv....  Your logic may be correct in some cases but I have never tried to unsubscribe and yet I am now again receiving all the spam types as detailed recently!

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

The logic might be completely correct - only some addresses need to be validated to confirm the validity of the database as a whole.
In other words, those who clicked 'unsubscribe' (might) have now opened the floodgates for us all. Interesting to note that the supposed unsubscribe link in the new flood does not work; no need for it any more!
The original unsubscribe link has to be seen as extremely suspect in any case. The originating supposed company is clearly bogus. Why would they have a legitiamte unsubscribe service? Answers on a postcard please, 'cos you're not getting my email address. Well, perhaps you will from Plusnet.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

Thanks for the new information, so this is a different format of email footer from the original batch. All I know is that I did unsubscribe using a link from the original batch and to date have had no further spam emails to my plusnet/madasafish addresses from any source.

Re: Spam to plusnet-specific Email address.

My unique to plusnet email address has been leaked, but not my current one. It is the email address I used for an old account I closed in 2013.
51 spam emails in the last 30 days.
Also compare the market has leaked my email address to the same people - that was an address I used with them in 2008.
