1. Are you on a dynamic IP?  I suspect not - switching to FTTC will have delivered a different IP, possibly one not in the range of those known to be affected by this issue.  Also the faster data speed will have helped.
2. On switch over to FTTC it can take a while for the PlusNet profile to be updated or a later ADSL update from BTOR can knock your profile back to the previous ADSL value - see the "Current Speed" link below.
If that is not correct it should change within a few hours - if CRT see this quick enough they might be able to make a manual change if that is what the problem is.

Thank you.  No change in download speed yet but I'll leave it until tomorrow and see if it fixes itself.  If not I'll start with your helpful links.

Think we've spotted the issue. It's affecting 2 out of the 8 outbound servers (avasout07 and avasout08). Based on this, I think the IP thing's a red herring. Hopefully make some traction on a fix next week.

Has this been fixed yet?
I did a disconnect/reconnect due to what felt like DNS sluggishness and unreliability, now I have an abnormally long pause when sending emails.
I'm on an old static IP...but that appears to be irrelevant now.

We restarted one of the affected servers over the weekend to no avail. Investigation continues...

We've identified a bottleneck where emails are being scanned multiple times. Some changes to the logic have been proposed but I'm not sure when we're looking to roll these live.

Not really. AFAIK we're still waiting to implement some of the proposed logic changes. I'll see if there's anything that can be done in the interim to lessen the severity of the problem.

I've been experiencing this problem for the last week. Approx. 20 secs to send a one-line text message. Emails with attachments much longer still. Not such a problem if you only send the occasional email, but  this is getting pretty much unworkable for me now.  Sad
